There are mixed reviews of the Tire Mount Bike Rack and you just have to make sure you find a model that is suited to your vehicle. You might not realize but some spare tires are not positioned in the center and this affects the positioning of a tire mount bike rack. So make sure you get a model that allows you to shift it either left or right and that is adjustable.

A Tire Mount Bike Rack Called The Hollywood.

It does the job that a tire mount bike rack is meant to but there have been a few comments that this bike rack is prone to rusting. So if you live near the ocean or will leave your bike rack on permanently, think carefully about this option.

Hollywood Racks SR1 spare tire mount rack - 2 bikes

People who choose the Hollywood tire mount bike rack did so because the Thule rack didn’t fit a Toyota RAV 2. Another comment we noticed that this bike rack is not as secure as others, and its easy to take off. You have to put a chain around it to attach it to the spare tire to slow a thief down! So if security is an issue then wait up on this one.

Thule Tire Mount Bike Rack

Thats the Thule Spar Me Tire Mount Bike Rack   Thule 963 Spare Me 2-Bike Spare Tire Mount Rack

People comment on the sturdiness and durability of this rack not to mention that the bikes don’t jump around when you are driving.

On top of that, if security is a concern for you, then this tire mount bike rack is for you. The Thule can be locked to the car, and you can also lock the bikes to the rack.

All in all, for the money, this is a terrific little bike rack!

But make sure that the spare tire is centered.

Some SUV’s come with the tire to the far right or far left. The Thule Tire mount bike rack can only be adjusted 6 inches on either side so your bikes may jut out on one side if thats the case.

Saris B.A.T. 2-Bike Spare Tire Mount Bike Rack

Reviews are mixed and varied. Saris didn’t seem to live up to its expectations in this bike rack range.

Saris B.A.T. 2-bike spare tire rack

Some people mentioned that if you are carrying 2 bikes then they tend to touch each other.

In general reviews show the bike rack to be very strong and sturdy and can carry bikes with no problem for a long distance.

Taking the bike rack on and off seems to be a bit of a mission since the bolt that comes with the BAT is a size smaller than a standard wrench so you have to carry an extra wrench with you.

Oh, and a big point was that the price that shown is accurate, but in order to attach the B.A.T to the spare tire you have to buy either one of 2 metal bars to fit behind the spare tire which gives you something to attach the bat too.

So all in all it works out to be more expensive.

Yakima Tire Mount Bike Rack

This is the Yakima Spare Joe! Once again there were mixed reviews about this bike rack. Faithful Yakima users bought this model because of good experience with Yakima products, but I think it all boils down to what vehicle you are attaching the tire mount bike rack too.

Yakima Spare Joe 2-bike spare tire mount rack

This bike rack mounts around the tire as against the Thule which mounts on the tire. Also there seems to be an annoying strap which you have to thread which you have to pass through the spare tire and the back door to secure the whole thing to the tire. Or you can pass the strap behind the tire but you still have to get it through a small hole.

So it seems that people using spare tire covers and who want to keep them on, shouldn’t go for this option. And if you are going to be driving on rougher terrain, it doesn’t seem as strong and reliable as the Saris or Thule.
